But what if we told you there was an easy way to restore the shine to your appliances, and you probably already have what you need in your spice rack?

With a little cream of tartar, cleaning your stainless steel appliances is simple, whether it's a small toaster or a jumbo-sized fridge. All you have to do is grab a damp sponge, add some cream of tartar, and scrub away. With a little work, your stainless steel will look good as new.

Polish Tarnished Dishware With Ketchup

Metal tends to lose its luster over the years, making it look dingy. Luckily, you can revamp tarnished dishware by putting a dab of ketchup on a cloth and rubbing the condiment onto the item. Then, rinse and dry as you normally would. This cleaning hack also works well with copper pots and pans, as well as silverware.

Dishes look tarnished over time because the oxygen in the air forms an oxide that coats the metal, making it appear dirty. The salt and vinegar in ketchup break the oxide build-up making them look brand new.

A cast iron skillet deserves a place in your kitchen and in your heart. This heavy-hitter is a true workhorse in the kitchen as it's durable, almost completely non-stick, and super affordable. But cast iron needs to be kept clean and well-oiled.

Over time your cast iron skillet will begin losing its seasoning. To keep your hard work shining through in dishes, ditch the soap when it's time to clean your cast iron. Instead, all of you need to do is grab a sponge and some regular ol' table salt. Coat the bottom of your cast iron pans with salt and gently scrub away any food debris. Dry as you normally would.

No one really thinks to clean their washing machine since it's supposed to do all of the cleaning for us. Over time, however, the barrel inside your washing machine can accumulate grime. What's worse is this grime can progress to mold, leaving a bad scent in your appliance. The easiest way to clean it? Bleach and hot water.

All you need to do is run a regular cycle (without clothes, of course) using a combination of bleach and warm water. We like to use a capful of bleach or two, depending on the size of the washing machine.

Your garbage disposal is a champ for all it puts up with. But over time, food waste can create an unpleasant environment beneath your sink. If you've noticed your garbage disposal doesn't smell as fresh as you'd like, no worries. You can easily freshen the scent coming from your appliance without dismantling it.

All you need to do is cut up a few slices of citrus (any citrus will work, whether you use lemon, lime, grapefruit, etc.). Take the sliced citrus and put it through your garbage disposal while the water is running. Not only will the acids from the fruit clean the surface of the blades, but the scent of delicious citrus will cut any foul odors.

Coca-cola isn't just a sugary treat enjoyed on a hot day 2014 it's also a powerful cleaning agent. The mild acidity in the soda makes it the perfect cleanser for removing stubborn limescale from your toilet. Best of all, Coke is only a few bucks for a liter and is non-toxic.

All you need to do is measure out two or so cups of Coke. Pour the soda into your toilet, evenly coating the surface of the bowl. Let the Coke sit for at least an hour so it can break down the stains. Then, watch the gentle carbonic and phosphoric acid go to work! When an hour or more has passed, flush the toilet. Repeat the process again for stubborn stains.

Simply combine a scoop of baking soda and a few drops of lemon juice in a bowl and mix to form a paste. Depending on the size and location of the stain, you can use something as simple as a toothbrush to apply your all-natural paste.
