According to professor James Serpell, of University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine; All Dog species in the world, no matter how different, had originated exclusively from one single species on earth: the gray wolf (Canis lupus) of central Asia. Huge Dog breeds are especially fascinating. According to Wikipedia, a “Huge” breed has to be at least 70 Kilo or more to qualify. Most huge breeds apart from a few on this list, are actually very calm, submissive and nurturing animals. The huge dog breed was originally meant to fend off bears, tigers, and other large beasts. Breeds like the Caucasian Shepherd and the Giant Tibetan Mastiff were breed by mountain farmers in the Kozak regions of Asia. The farmer’s intention was not for the new breed to be the primary pack herder. These huge breeds would travel miles from the pack and circle around its perimeter to spread their scent (thus alerting predators to stay away), and if need be fending off predators from a safe distance. Huge dogs make for some great Photos, so we compiled some for you, and accompanied them with some fun random dog facts (according to “Pet Assure”) and fun quotes. Have fun!
Back Seat Reading
Try reading a book next to your dog in the park. I dare you! Dogs have very low attention spans so make sure you give them some exercise before you sit down for some “me time” at the park. If you don’t this is what you’ll get!

The Hug Command
If you have a big breed or even a medium dog. We recommend you train them and train them well from a young age! One of the most important disciplines you can teach a dog is to hug on command. Not so they can hug everyone they see, but so they don’t hug without permission.

Forgetting to Crate Train
There is a reason this Woolly Mammoth is sitting on this old man’s chair because no one crate trained him. Crate training your Dog is extremely critical! Especially when they are over 100 kilos in size. When getting a Huge Dog breed, get a huge cage, put a blanket around it, put their food inside, all their favorite toys, and a water bowl. When they are tired, that’s the spot they will pick to rest.
“No one appreciates the very special genius of your conversation as the dog does.” – Christopher Morley. A German Shepherd guide dog led her blind companion through the entire 2100-mile Appalachian Trail.
Hug Me Right
Dogs actually prefer not to be hugged as humans do; their version of a good hug is a lot different! They like to be embraced from the side, or enjoy jumping up and stretching on your chest while you pet their back. Try squeezing a Mastiffs stomach, also say goodbye to your face before you do!

Humans can get a coat like that too. Just train your puppy to lay on you, and when he reaches 70 kilos, you’ll have the perfect winter blanket.

Summer Can Be Hot
Summertime can be grueling for some Huge breeds. Not all of them have “Smart Coat,” and you may want to check online if your climate is suitable before getting one for yourself. Dogs can’t talk, and can only convey to us so many things. So, your little guy may not be able to say for instance “why did you bring me here, it’s too hot, get me out of here!!”

Not a High Enough Fence!
If you’re getting a big dog, make tall fence! That’s not enough either, training your dog to have at least a two-foot boundary between them and the wall! Why do you ask? Dogs can dig pretty fast, and huge dogs have huge paws, so they’ll probably have to do less digging too! This photo is a perfect example of the wrong fence for a working breed German Shepherd!

Getting’ Yo Hair Did
I don’t know what these groomers do, but I have never seen one dog being bad at the groomers ever. It’s worth to note that K-9’s mostly do not enjoy getting a haircut, but some breeds need them to stay healthy. The reason they don’t like it is that their coat is a protective layer, and when we cut their hair, they seem to feel more vulnerable. Let’s hope this guy just got a trim.
