2017 was a year that was difficult for so many people. For Americans, it was a politically turbulent year, and in Hollywood, it seemed like news of assaults was constant. Even though plenty of good things happened this year, too, most people aren't too disappointed to say goodbye. And the best news of all? It seems like 2018 is shaping up to be a way better year than the one we all just experienced. Here's what you have to look forward to when January 1, 2018 rolls around 2014 and this is just the beginning of the possibilities the future holds.
The Winter Olympics
In February, the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will kick off in South Korea, offering fans more than two straight weeks of sports competitions like curling, skiing, luge, and bobsledding. Oh, and obviously, the best of all of these: ice skating. TV will never be better, folks, so get ready to spend countless nights in your living room, drinking hot cocoa and watching people with seriously crazy athletic skills compete against each other in the freezing cold. It's going to be so much fun, even for those of us who aren't athletically inclined... and they'll air just in time to distract all of us from how very tired we're getting of winter.
Kim Kardashian Will Welcome Her Third Baby
After finding out that her placenta accreta pregnancy condition made it impossible for her to ever carry a baby herself again, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West will welcome their third child via surrogate sometime in the beginning of 2018 2014 and as she told Ellen DeGeneres, this one is a girl. Kim's new baby's arrival means there are plenty of adorable Instagram photos of her new little one in our future 2014 and hopefully, new footage of baby number three with her older siblings, North and Saint, on the next season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Since she's kept her surrogate's pregnancy so quiet, there are a lot of surprises in store.
And Possibly, Even More Kardashian Babies Too
Khlo00e9 Kardashian has finally confirmed she will be having a baby. But Kylie Jenner has yet to announce whether or not the deluge of rumors about her pregnancy is actually true or not. But since it looks like both of these sisters are expecting, it seems the Kardashian/Jenner clan is getting a lot bigger in 2018. On top of Kim and Khloe's new babies, there could be one more 2014 which means endless adorable little ones all over social media. What could be better? And obviously, their arrival is going to be a huge deal that everyone is going to obsess over, so that's certainly something to get excited about.
The Midterm Elections
If you're unhappy with Donald Trump's presidency and want to do something about it, November 2018 is your big chance. In the election, every single seat in the House of Representatives is up for grabs, and 33 of the Senate seats will need to be elected. It's a huge chance for Democrats to reclaim their footing in Congress, and judging by the way recent smaller elections have gone, it could be a huge moment in American history. No matter what happens, it'll definitely be interesting to see how the elections unfold... and how the rest of Trump's presidency goes as a result.
Another Royal Wedding
This good news snuck in right at the end of the year, but it's officially happening: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to tie the knot in May. With what an event the royal wedding between Kate Middleton and Prince William was, we already know that the wedding itself (and the weeks that lead up to it) are going to be absolutely insane. Americans, get ready to stay up all night and invite your friends over for a watch party, because there's no way this isn't going to be the wedding of the decade. We seriously can't wait to see what dress Meghan picks out. No matter what it is, she's going to look gorgeous.
The Release Of Solo: A Star Wars Story
We might have to wait until 2019 for the followup to The Last Jedi, but another Star Wars movie is on its way in just a few months. On May 25, Solo will hit theaters to tell the backstory of one of the most beloved characters in the franchise: Han Solo, of course. Starring Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han himself, the movie includes a star-studded cast including actors like Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke. And yes, of course his right-hand man, Chewie, will be there, too. After seeing the older Han's heartbreaking death in The Force Awakens, this will be a great way to celebrate his character's return to the screen.
There Will Be A Total Lunar Eclipse
This year's solar eclipse was so incredibly exciting that the entire country practically stopped to see it happen, and now, we have another exciting event in the sky to look forward to in 2018. On January 31, 2018, the moon will appear red as it passes within the Earth's shadow, Most of North America will be able to see this happen, so it'll be an exciting night. Will it top the solar eclipse of 2017 (and the stressful search for eclipse glasses at the last minute), though? That's yet to be seen, but it's definitely worth throwing a party to watch the fun with your friends.

Kate Middleton Will Welcome Her Third Child
The royal family has so many exciting things going on in 2018, and that means the rest of us get to take joy in it, too. Just before Meghan and Harry get married, Kate is set to give birth to her third child, meaning that spring is going to be a big one for this family. Judging by how adorable and precocious George and Charlotte are already, we have no reason to believe that their new little sister or brother won't be just as cute. We can't wait to see the new royal baby and find out his or her name. All of their family photos from here on out are going to be even better... if that's possible.

Even if you don't like soccer, the World Cup has the potential to be fun. Hit your favorite sports bar, grab a beer, and watch everyone around you freak out during the games, for better or for worse. What's not to love about that?
A Wrinkle In Time Will Be Out In Theaters
Even if you didn't read Madeleine L'Engle's classic, A Wrinkle in Time, as a kid, you should still get excited about Disney's take on the movie hitting theaters next year. It comes out on March 9, 2018, and includes an all-star cast. Mindy Kaling, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Zach Galifianakis are all set to star in the film, and the trailer makes it look like it's going to be incredible. More Episodes Of This Is Us
When the intense family drama, This Is Us, premiered in 2016, fans were totally taken aback by how immediately (and how emotionally) connected they felt to Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia's characters and their kids, the Big Three. And now that the show is in its second season, it's even better, but there's only one problem: it's currently on hiatus for the holidays. Fortunately, in January, This Is Us will be back, and chances are it will also be better than ever. We can't wait to catch up with the Pearson family... and hopefully, finally find out how exactly Jack died.
The SpaceX Launch To The Moon
Remember all that buzz about Elon Musk's mission to send two civilians to the moon through his company, SpaceX? The time for launch has finally come. In 2018, this lunar mission will begin, and it's slated to take about a week for the rocket to circle the moon and return to earth. If everything goes as Elon and his team plans, the rocket will skim the moon and visit a little deeper into space before making its return, giving actual civilians an experience to visit space without being an astronaut. This could change so many things, and it's an exciting development for those of us who are fascinated by space.
The Handmaid's Tale Will Be Back For Season 2
When The Handmaid's Tale first premiered on Hulu earlier this year, fans couldn't stop talking about Elisabeth Moss' show-stopping performance as Offred in the beginning of a rebellion against a society that forced young, fertile women to act as childbearing servants for the wealthy. It's a fantastical story that sometimes hits a little too close to home, and after gaining massive popularity, it's no surprise that the show is coming back for more. The show will be back next year, and Elisabeth has described the next season as "really dark," so get ready for even more shocking moments than we all witnessed in the first season.

New Music From Nicki Minaj
It's been more than three years since Nicki Minaj's most recent album release, The Pinkprint, but in 2018, fans have plenty of new music to look forward to. In a September interview with Dazed, Nicki confirmed that a new album is coming in 2018 and that it will signal the beginning of a new era for her and her career... including some of the best music she's ever created, especially since she's changed the way in which she creates. Ralph, stuck in the internet, encountering literally every Disney princess? What's not to love about that? We can't wait to see this video game good guy back on screen... now that he's better at being a good guy, anyway. Before he was so misunderstood, so this chapter is going to be fun to watch.
