The Kia and the Hyundai are better equipped, but Maruti has the edge with after sales services.

I have just sold my 15-year-old Maruti Suzuki Swift (due to government regulations), though it had only run 44,000km. I am in the market for a new car with a budget between Rs 12 lakh-15 lakh (on-road) that will be driven only by me and my wife. I barely drive 200-300km each month with an occasional 400km outstation trip. I would, hence, prefer a compact SUV and have shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Fronx, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Creta and Venue, Kia Seltos and Sonet, Citroen C3, Skoda Kushaq and Honda Elevate.

Autocar India says: We would narrow down the choice to just the compact SUVs on your shortlist as the usage is just for you and your spouse and they fit within your budget. The bigger SUVs will be more expensive. We feel the Kia Sonet is your best option for the following reasons. It has the most premium cabin with lots of features; it is nice and compact for city use; feels stable on the highway; is reliable and easy to maintain.
Another plus point is that Kia’s service is generally good and the company has plans to grow its brand and network in India. So though it’s not as established as say Maruti Suzuki, you can be assured that it has big ambitions in India. We suggest you go for the 1.0 turbo-petrol with the twin-clutch DCT as that has strong performance and is easy to drive.
